Discover Luxair’s full range of premium cooker hoods, induction hobs with extractors, bathroom extractor fans, filters and ducting systems — designed for powerful performance and elegant kitchens.

Choosing the Right Cooker Hood & Ventilation System

Selecting the right cooker hood or extractor system depends on your kitchen layout, cooking habits and ventilation requirements. Luxair offers wall-mounted, ceiling, island and downdraft cooker hoods, as well as induction hobs with built-in extraction.

For recirculating kitchens, charcoal filters help neutralise odours before clean air is returned to the room. For ducted installations, metal grease filters and correctly sized ducting ensure maximum airflow and long-term performance.

Cooker Hood Buyer’s Guide

Answer

Choosing the right cooker hood depends on your kitchen layout and cooking style. Wall-mounted, ceiling, island and canopy cooker hoods are designed for different installations, while downdraft extractors and induction hobs with built-in extraction offer discreet alternatives for modern kitchens.

Answer

Ducted cooker hoods vent air outside using ducting, providing maximum extraction performance. Recirculating cooker hoods use charcoal filters to remove odours before returning clean air back into the kitchen — ideal where external ducting isn’t possible.

Answer

Charcoal filters are required for recirculating installations to neutralise cooking odours. If your cooker hood is ducted externally, charcoal filters are not required — only metal grease filters are used to protect the motor.

Answer

Extraction rate is measured in cubic metres per hour (m³/h). Larger kitchens or heavy cooking require higher extraction rates, while smaller kitchens can use lower-powered motors. As a general guide, your cooker hood should refresh the air in your kitchen 10–12 times per hour.

Answer

Metal grease filters should be cleaned every 4–8 weeks depending on use. Charcoal filters typically need replacing every 3–6 months to maintain effective odour removal and airflow performance.

Your cooker hood should be at least the same width as your hob, or ideally wider. This ensures efficient capture of steam, grease and odours during cooking.
