Luxair Square Charcoal Filter — Number 3

If your Luxair FLT wall hood, FLT island hood, or Round Glass island hood runs in recirculation mode, the Square Charcoal Filter Number 3 is the genuine replacement filter that keeps it working effectively. One filter per pack at £14.99 — or subscribe and never run out.

Compatible hoods:

  • Flat T-Shape (FLT) Wall Hood
  • Flat T-Shape (FLT) Island Hood
  • Round Glass Island Hood

Important — size matters: Luxair produces three different square charcoal filters (Number 2, Number 3, and Number 7). Although they look similar, the dimensions are different and they are not interchangeable. Make sure you are ordering Number 3 specifically for the models listed above. If you're unsure which filter your hood takes, check your hood's manual or contact our UK-based support team and we'll confirm for you.

Why charcoal filters matter

When your hood runs in recirculation mode, air drawn up from the hob passes through the metal grease filters first, then through the charcoal filter, before being returned clean to the kitchen. The charcoal filter is doing the work of absorbing cooking odours — garlic, fish, spices, frying — everything that would otherwise linger. A fresh filter absorbs effectively and your kitchen stays fresh. A saturated filter stops working, odours return, and your motor has to work harder to push air through the restricted flow.

When to replace

Replace every 3 months under normal cooking use, or every 50 hours of cooking — whichever comes first. If you cook frequently or with strong-smelling ingredients, replacing every 2 months will keep performance at its best. Signs your filter needs replacing: cooking odours returning to the kitchen during or after use, reduced airflow through the hood, or a stale smell when the hood is running.

Regular replacement also protects your motor. A clogged charcoal filter forces the motor to work against restricted airflow, increasing wear over time. A fresh filter keeps the motor running cleanly and helps extend its working life — a small ongoing cost that protects a much larger investment.

Subscribe and never run out

The easiest way to stay on top of filter changes is to subscribe. You'll receive a full year's supply delivered automatically, timed to arrive before you need them — no remembering to reorder, no running out mid-cook. Subscribing saves you money compared to buying individually, and you can skip, pause, or cancel at any time with no lock-in. Full subscription details and savings are shown at checkout.

How to replace the filter

Replacing the Number 3 charcoal filter takes under five minutes. Switch the hood off, remove the metal grease filters, slide out the old charcoal filter, slide the new one in, and refit the grease filters. A step-by-step video guide is available on this page — watch it before your first change for a clear visual walkthrough.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Square Filter Number 2, Number 3, and Number 7?
All three are square charcoal filters but they have different physical dimensions and are not interchangeable. Number 2 fits curved glass and flat glass wall and island hoods. Number 3 fits the FLT wall hood, FLT island hood, and Round Glass island hood. Number 7 fits the Delta 60cm wall hood. Always check the number carefully before ordering — fitting the wrong size will mean it doesn't seat correctly and won't filter effectively.

How do I know if my hood is recirculating or ducted?
If your hood vents air through a duct to an outside wall or roof, it's ducted and does not use charcoal filters. If it has no external duct and returns filtered air back into the kitchen, it's recirculating and requires charcoal filters. Some hoods support both modes — check your manual or look for a charcoal filter housing inside the hood behind the grease filters.

Can I wash and reuse the filter?
No. Charcoal filters cannot be washed or regenerated — the active carbon is spent once saturated and must be replaced. Washing does not restore filtration performance.

What happens if I don't replace it on schedule?
Cooking odours will return to the kitchen, airflow through the hood will reduce, and the motor will work harder against the restricted flow — increasing wear. Regular replacement is the most cost-effective way to protect your hood's long-term performance.

How many do I need per year?
Replacing every 3 months requires 4 per year — exactly what the annual subscription delivers. Replacing every 2 months requires approximately 6.

Is this a genuine Luxair filter?
Yes. This is a genuine Luxair replacement charcoal filter manufactured to fit and perform correctly in compatible Luxair hoods. Third-party filters may not fit correctly or provide equivalent filtration performance.
