There's a reason the T-shape cooker hood has become the defining cooker hood silhouette of the modern British kitchen. It doesn't just extract — it anchors the wall above your hob with a deliberate, architectural confidence that a standard chimney hood simply can't match. The Luxair FLT delivers exactly that: a genuinely slim 470mm-deep flat profile that sits flush and purposeful above your hob, in six sizes from 60cm to 110cm, finished in matt black or brushed stainless steel, starting from £359.

Which kitchen styles does it suit?

The range of homes the FLT belongs in is wider than you might expect. In stainless steel above a range cooker, it anchors a navy or dark green shaker kitchen without competing with the cabinetry. In a white handleless kitchen with quartz worktops it disappears cleanly into the design — functional but invisible. In matt black it becomes a deliberate punctuation mark: perfectly at home in a charcoal and concrete kitchen, above a black induction hob in a dark minimalist scheme, or in an open-plan kitchen-diner where the hood is on show from the sofa and needs to look considered from every angle. Its slim 470mm depth also makes it the practical choice where overhead wall cabinets or a low ceiling would make a deeper hood impractical — in a galley kitchen, a kitchen with a shorter chimney run, or a tight kitchen-diner conversion.

Extraction that scales with your kitchen

Most T-shape hoods at this price point use a single motor across all sizes. The FLT doesn't. The 60cm, 70cm, 80cm and 90cm models run a 550m³/hr motor — more than sufficient for standard and medium kitchens, capable of clearing a full hob's worth of steam in seconds. Step up to the 100cm or 110cm and the motor upgrades to a substantially more powerful output designed for larger kitchens, double range cookers, and the kind of serious cooking that puts a lesser hood under real strain. This is the detail that separates the FLT from cheaper T-shape alternatives — the extraction power grows with the size of the hood, rather than being stretched thin across a range it wasn't built for.

Controls, lighting and day-to-day use

Backlit electronic touch controls manage fan speed and lighting directly from the hood's face — clearly visible in use, unobtrusive when the kitchen is at rest. Integrated LED lighting throws clean, even light across the hob and the worktop below, making prep easier and the kitchen feel more complete. Dishwasher-safe aluminium grease filters sit beneath the hood's flat face — straightforward to remove, quick to clean, and effective at capturing airborne grease before it reaches the motor. This is a hood designed to be used daily without becoming a chore to maintain.

Installation and ventilation options

For ducted extraction — the preferred method — the FLT connects to 125mm (5") round ducting, with 150mm (6") recommended for best performance, particularly on the larger 100cm and 110cm models. Where external ducting isn't an option, the FLT runs in recirculation mode with compatible square charcoal filters (Number 3, sold separately), making it a practical fit for flats, apartments, converted properties, and rented homes. If you're unsure how to plan your duct run or which size to choose, our team can advise — or book a Luxair home survey for in-person guidance before you commit.

Every FLT ships with Luxair's 7-year warranty (register within 31 days of installation), fast UK despatch, and full UK-based customer support.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a T-shape cooker hood and why is it so popular?
A T-shape or flat cooker hood projects outward from the wall in a horizontal shelf-like profile, rather than rising up in a traditional tall chimney shape. It's become the dominant style in modern British kitchen design because it looks deliberately architectural rather than purely functional — and its slim depth means it works in kitchens where a conventional chimney hood would be too deep or too dominant.

Why does the motor output change between sizes?
The 60–90cm FLT models use a 550m³/hr motor matched to the extraction needs of standard and medium kitchens. The 100cm and 110cm models step up to a significantly more powerful
850m³/hr motor because larger hobs and bigger kitchens produce more steam, smoke and odour — and a motor sized for a 60cm hob simply isn't adequate above a 110cm range cooker. Luxair matches the motor to the hood so performance scales properly across the full size range.

What size FLT do I need?
Match your hood to your hob or go slightly wider for better capture at the edges of the cooking zone. For a standard 60cm hob choose the 60cm or 70cm. For a 90cm hob or range cooker the 90cm or 100cm gives full coverage. For a wider range cooker up to 110cm, the 110cm model is the correct choice.

Can I use the FLT without external ducting?
Yes. The FLT supports full recirculation mode with compatible square charcoal filters (Number 3, sold separately). Charcoal filters should be replaced every three to six months depending on cooking frequency to maintain filtration efficiency.

Is the FLT suitable for an open-plan kitchen?
Yes — the FLT's slim 470mm depth and flat profile make it one of the most open-plan-friendly hoods in the Luxair range. It doesn't project far from the wall and its horizontal silhouette reads as a design feature rather than a utility appliance when viewed from across a combined kitchen and living space.

How difficult is it to install?
Installation follows a standard wall-mounted chimney hood process — the FLT is supplied with full installation instructions and the manual is available to download above. Many customers install it themselves with intermediate DIY skills. For professional installation, book a Luxair home survey and our engineers can carry out the full installation for you

Home Visit & Installation Advice
Confused? Unsure? Let Us Help You Choose A Kitchen Extractor

Luxair Cooker Hoods now offer a site visit by one of our qualified in-house engineers, where they will advise on the best option regarding what cooker hood suits your kitchen needs, they can also advise on the best way to run your ducting or if re-circulation may be best for your setup.

An installation service is also available upon request and completion of a Site or home Survey. Prices will vary dependent on installation required and will be quoted once an engineer has made his visit and all necessary observations are made in relation to your cooker hood installation.

What you need to know:

Another important reason to consider a site survey is to identify the most suitable cooker hood for the location of your kitchen or bathroom.

We will look at the very best option, taking into consideration the size of your kitchen, if the ceiling construction is suitable for a ceiling cooker hood, any potential regulation requirements and above all the correct motor size and ducting route to give you the optimum extraction you require.

Your Site Survey:

During a site survey, your Luxair engineer will discuss your requirements, taking into consideration the appropriate extraction output for the room, the relevant location within the kitchen and the most suitable ducting system for your cooker hood. If the installation is new, the site survey will identify the requirements for the ducting system, ventilation and clearances to any combustible materials to maintain safe use. The site survey will allow your Luxair engineer to provide you with the best advice, consequently avoiding any unexpected expense.

Please Note: All site surveys will be booked in directly with the engineers, who will contact you within 1 - 7 working days of your payment being processed. Our engineers will call you to arrange a date and time that is convenient to you. Book Here
