The Luxair 200cm Downdraft Gourmet Station is the only product of its kind available in the UK — a full 200cm architectural island extraction unit that combines a high-performance 850 m³/hr downdraft extractor with integrated shelving, dual charging sockets, a dedicated tablet holder, and dimmable LED lighting into a single, seamless matt black island fixture. This is a made-to-order product with a lead time of 6–8 weeks — designed in direct collaboration with architects and interior designers for kitchens where the island is the centrepiece of the home, not just the cooking surface.
The Only 200cm Downdraft Gourmet Station in the UK
No other manufacturer produces a 200cm downdraft extractor island unit of this specification. The Gourmet Station was developed after extensive consultation with kitchen designers and architects who needed an extraction solution that could anchor a large island visually and functionally — without compromising the open sightlines, clean surfaces, and design integrity that define a luxury kitchen. The result is a product that functions as extraction infrastructure, kitchen storage, a charging station, and a design statement simultaneously. There is nothing else like it on the UK market.
850 m³/hr Extraction — Serious Power Inside a Design Object
At the heart of the Gourmet Station is a high-performance 850 m³/hr motor — the same extraction power as Luxair's standalone 90cm downdraft, housed within a 200cm island unit that stretches across your entire cooking surface. The smoked glass splashback rises to 500mm automatically from the worktop, capturing steam and cooking vapours before they rise into the open kitchen space. The unit auto-stops at 200mm as a safety position and can be raised manually to any height up to the full 500mm. For gas hob use, the unit must always be operated at the full 500mm rise height to prevent heat damage to internal components and LED lighting.
The Gourmet Station — What's Built In
Beyond extraction, the 200cm unit integrates a complete kitchen workstation into the island itself. Adjustable shelving provides dedicated storage for oils, spices, bottles, and kitchen accessories — positioned at the cooking surface for immediate access during food preparation. Dual UK plug sockets are built directly into the unit, allowing phones, tablets, and small appliances to charge at the island without trailing cables. A dedicated tablet holder keeps your recipe screen at eye level and hands-free while you cook — a detail that sounds minor until the first time you don't have to touch your phone with oily hands mid-recipe.
The dual plug sockets also mean you can power a smart speaker directly at the island — music, timers, hands-free recipe assistance, and voice control for your smart home, all without a trailing cable in sight.
And when cooking is done, the splashback retracts flush into the worktop, the shelving folds away, and the entire unit disappears back into the island surface — leaving a completely clean, uninterrupted worktop as if nothing was ever there.
Dimmable 2 x 24W LED Strip Lighting
Two 24W dimmable LED strip lights run the full width of the unit, casting even, adjustable task lighting across the entire 200cm cooking surface. Brightness is controlled directly from the touch panel — bright for high-focus preparation work, dimmed for ambient kitchen lighting during dining. At 200cm, this is also a significant amount of integrated kitchen lighting that would otherwise require separate fittings above the island.
Touch Controls, Remote Control Option & Easy Maintenance
The touch control panel manages extraction speed, rise height, and LED lighting from a single interface built into the matt black frame. An optional remote control (available at checkout) is particularly valuable for a 200cm island unit where one end of the controls may be across the cooking surface. Aluminium grease filters are easy to remove and dishwasher safe, keeping maintenance straightforward despite the unit's scale.
Installation — Ducted or Recirculating, Island or Wall-Side
The Gourmet Station supports ducted extraction through underfloor ducting to an external wall, or recirculating installation using Luxair's optional ceramic plinth filter kit (sold separately from £299) for islands where floor ducting isn't feasible. Given the 850 m³/hr motor, 200mm (8") ducting is recommended for full unrestricted performance.
Critical installation notes: Do not pre-cut your worktop before the unit is delivered. If you are having custom or stone worktops manufactured, your kitchen fitter must verify all cutout dimensions directly with Luxair before cutting — dimensions are subject to update and Luxair cannot accept liability for errors resulting from pre-cut measurements taken prior to delivery. A Luxair home survey is strongly recommended before ordering to confirm island dimensions, ducting route, and floor construction suitability. Backed by Luxair's 7-year parts and labour warranty (subject to registration within 31 days of installation).
