A 90° elbow is used when your ducting run needs to turn a corner. The most common scenarios are routing ducting from a wall-mounted cooker hood horizontally through an external wall directly behind the hood, changing direction from a vertical run up through a ceiling cavity to a horizontal run across the loft space, or navigating around a joist, structural element, or pipework that sits in the direct ducting path. Is 100mm the Right Size for Your Hood?
100mm (4") ducting is suitable for cooker hood motors rated below 450 m³/hr. If your hood has a higher-rated motor, you'll need larger ducting for full extraction efficiency — undersized ducting restricts airflow, reduces motor performance, and increases noise. Luxair's recommendation by motor rating:
- Below 450 m³/hr → 100mm (4") ducting
- 450–750 m³/hr → 125mm (5") or 150mm (6") ducting
- 750–2000 m³/hr → 150mm (6") or 200mm (8") ducting
