This is the most important distinction in the flat ducting range and the most common source of wrong purchases. A vertical elbow changes the height of the duct run — it turns the duct upward or downward. A horizontal elbow keeps the duct at the same height and turns it left or right. If your ducting run travels along the top of kitchen cabinets and needs to drop down into a cabinet void at the end, or rise up through a ceiling at the end of the run, this vertical elbow is the correct fitting. If the run needs to turn a corner left or right at the same height — along the cabinet top or ceiling line — use the 100mm x 60mm 90° Horizontal Elbow instead. Getting this right before ordering saves a return trip.
The vertical elbow appears most commonly in two places in a kitchen ducting run. First, at the start of the run — where a flat duct coming horizontally out of a round-to-flat adaptor needs to turn downward to route inside a wall cavity or upward to exit through the ceiling above the cabinets. Second, at the end of the run — where a flat duct travelling along the top of cabinets needs to turn downward to exit through the wall at a lower height, or upward to enter a ceiling void before connecting to an external wall vent. In both cases the vertical elbow makes the direction change cleanly in a single rigid fitting.
Both ends are push fit and self-sealing against 100mm x 60mm flat ducting pipe and matching fittings — no sealant, or fixings needed at any rigid-to-rigid connection. The smooth interior bore through the bend minimises turbulence, maintaining extraction efficiency through the direction change.

100mm x 60mm flat ducting is the equivalent airflow cross-section to 100mm round ducting and is correct for cooker hood motors rated below 450 m³/hr. For higher-rated motors use larger ducting throughout:
