Cooker Hood Motor Capacitor

A capacitor is one of the most common causes of a cooker hood fan failing to start or running sluggishly. If your hood powers on but the fan doesn't spin, or spins slowly at all speeds, a failed capacitor is the most likely culprit before replacing the full motor.

Please note: the capacitor image shown may differ from the one supplied, but the replacement will have the same function and will be suited to the motor unit.

What a Capacitor Does

The capacitor stores electrical energy and releases it to help the motor start and maintain operation when your cooker hood is switched on. AC fan motors used in cooker hoods rely on a capacitor to initiate the spinning action — without it, the motor cannot start or runs intermittently.

Is a Faulty Capacitor the Problem?

Common signs of capacitor failure: the fan won't start when the hood is switched on; the motor hums but the fan doesn't spin; the fan runs slowly at all speed settings; the hood worked intermittently and then stopped entirely. If the hood controls and lighting still function but there is no fan movement, replacing the capacitor is the recommended first step before replacing the full motor unit.

✓ Genuine Luxair replacement motor capacitor — correct specification for Luxair cooker hood motors

✓ Common cause of fan failure — if your hood powers on but the fan won't start, replace the capacitor before the full motor

✓ Start and run capacitor function — stores and releases electrical energy to initiate and maintain motor operation

✓ Compatible with wall, ceiling and island cooker hood motors — contact Luxair to confirm compatibility with your specific model if unsure

✓ Note on images — the capacitor supplied may differ visually from the image shown but will have the same function and specification

✓ Installation by a qualified electrician recommended — capacitor replacement involves working inside the motor housing
