Aluminium Inline Ducting Silencer — 125mm and 150mm, Up to 22dB Noise Reduction

This inline ducting silencer significantly reduces the operational noise of a cooker hood extraction system by up to 22dB, depending on frequency. It fits directly into any 125mm (5") or 150mm (6") round ducting run and requires no modification to the existing installation — simply insert inline between two duct sections. Available in lengths from 460mm to 585mm — check the product title for the exact length before ordering.

How It Works

The silencer body is constructed from thick-walled aluminium tube for high stability and durability. Inside, a 25mm glass wool insert at 16kg per m³ density absorbs sound energy as extraction airflow passes through — attenuating noise across a broad frequency range by up to 22dB. The glass wool material is non-combustible, certified to DIN 4102, making it suitable for use in kitchen extraction systems where heat resistance is a requirement.

Where This Component Is Used

This silencer is fitted inline on any round ducting run — positioned between the cooker hood outlet and the wall vent to reduce the noise transmitted through the duct. It is particularly effective for ceiling cooker hood installations using round ducting, where the duct run passes through ceiling voids and the motor noise can resonate through the structure. For installations using flat rectangular ducting, use a round-to-flat converter collar to connect the flat duct sections either side of the silencer.

Ducting Size Guide

Selecting the correct ducting diameter for your motor output ensures maximum extraction performance:

  • Below 450m³/hr → 100mm (4") ducting
  • 450–750m³/hr → 125mm (5") or 150mm (6") ducting
  • 750–2,000m³/hr → 150mm (6") or 200mm (8") ducting
